The Drink That Fuels Stylish People

There’s a false notion that style is solely about one's wardrobe.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  From the way we speak to our drinks of choice, style is the complete manifestation of individual attributes and proclivities.  Our taste speaks volumes about our personal style as much as the clothes we wear every day do.

One such thing is coffee.  Not only are coffee shops welcoming places to hang your hat during the day (at least for freelancers and creatives), but caffeine has fueled the work of some of the most productive, successful and stylish individuals throughout the ages.  It's rumored that writers like Voltaire and Honore de Balzac consumed 40-50 cups of coffee per day, and while I don't dare down such intense amounts of the good stuff, the buzz caffeination provides is a reassuring reminder that right here, right now, anything is possible.  And who doesn't look good when drinking a cup of coffee?

My home away from home is Spyhouse Coffee.  The airy, minimalist, urbane atmosphere is conducive to intense focus in long periods.  It’s where I meet friends for an afternoon pastry, bump into other interesting folks who are working on their own projects and go to as my place of refuge if I need a moment of solitude without feeling completely alone.

At Spyhouse, my usual order is a cappuccino.  I’m a firm believer in having coffee out every afternoon, and the small size and foamy body of a cappuccino gives me the right amount of caffeine to power through the rest of the day.  Though Spyhouse adorns their cappuccinos with latte art (the true Italian style is to let a layer of foam top off the drink), the drink is at once strong, smooth and comforting.  It’s a flourish I like, and it’s why I rarely order a latte or cold brew, even when the weather is warm.
